Don't forget you can see a galaxy with your own eyes.
The local sagittarius arm can be seen stradling the sky as a block of compact stars.

Types of Galaxy?

SPIRAL:
These galaxies have many arms that spread out from the central core. Many are thought to have SuperBlackholes at the very centre.

ELLIPTICAL:
Galaxies which look like an oval. Usually yellowish and bright.

IRREGULAR:
Galexies with an unusual shape. Usually blue. Most are faint. The LMC and the SMC orbit the milkyway.

BARRED SPIRAL:
Spiral galexies with 2 arms connected by a bar through the nucleus.
