There is plenty of "other stuff" out there.
Comets, Asteroids, pulsars and black holes are prime examples of this.

COMETS:
The Cosmic Wonderers.
Comets are big balls of ice and dust that orbit the sun, like planets. The difference is the orbits are way more elliptical. They get Tails once they close in to the sun.
Below is Comet Ikeya Zhang, Pronounced: ee-kay-uh JONG.

ASTEROIDS:
Rocks which follow orbits like planets, etc.
In the solar system there are 3 areas of asteriods:
The asteroid belt. Between Mars and jupiter.
The Trojans. In Jupiters orbit, they move with same pase.
The Kupier belt. Beyond Pluto less dense than the main belt.

Note Asteroids can be negotiated easy. There are km's of distance between. Holywood isn't reality.

PULSARS:
Fast spinning neutron stars.
Some spin at 30,000 times a second.
Emit powerful EMW (ElecroMagnetic Waves), in particular Light and X-ray.

BLACK HOLES:
Nobody quite knows what they are. They pull everything towards them. Not even light can escape. The cosmic vacum cleaner. Created from dying giant stars.
The biggest one's called SuperBlack Holes are found at the centre of galxies, including the milky way.
